Gators Blow Out Samford

The Florida Gators (1-1) defeated Samford (0-2) 45-7 on Saturday evening in Gainesville.

Making his first career start, freshman quarterback DJ Lagway made it a memorable one, going 18-for-25 with 456 yards passing, throwing for three touchdowns and no interceptions. The passing total set a new school record for passing yards in a single game.

The Gators had 632 yards of total offense on the night to just 205 for Samford, and never trailed in this game. They built a 14-0 lead at halfimte before turning the game into a blowout in the second half.

The Gators return to action when they host Texas A&M to start SEC play next Saturday. Kickoff between the Gators and Aggies is scheduled for 3:30 PM on September 14.
