Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson reportedly avoided a serious injury during Thursday's (August 7) preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Stephen Holder on Friday (August 8).
Richardson suffered a dislocated pinkie after being sacked by linebacker David Ojabo in the first quarter of Thursday's loss. The third-year quarterback underwent X-rays at halftime, which were negative, and he could return to practice as soon as Saturday (August 9).
Daniel Jones took over at quarterback to conclude the first half while rookie Riley Leonard played through the second half. Richardson had previously dealt with a shoulder injury in June that ruled him out of minicamp.
The former No. 4 overall pick has dealt with injuries throughout his first two seasons, having been limited to just four games during his rookie season before undergoing season-ending surgery and was limited by an oblique injury that ruled him out for two games before briefly being benched for veteran Joe Flacco, who is now with the Cleveland Browns. Richardson has gone 6-5 in 11 starts, having thrown for 1,814 yards, eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 176 of 348 passing, while also recording 635 yards 10 touchdowns on 111 rushing attempts.
