Miami, FL - Miami International Airport has been ranked the worst airport in the world for lost luggage.

According to a new study by Arka, a California-based shipping and packaging company, the airport allegedly loses approximately 306 bags per million flights, or about 5.5 bags per 1,000 passengers.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport was ranked second, Singapore Changi third, and Denver International Airport fourth for baggage handling.

Arka’s analysis examined passenger volume and online searches for “lost and found services,” adjusting the data per million passengers to allow for fair comparisons between airports.

An Arka spokesperson said that understanding baggage handling challenges helps travelers plan ahead and take necessary precautions.

Miami International Airport serves as the top U.S. hub for flights connecting Latin America and the Caribbean.

In 2024, the airport handled a record 56 million passengers, up from 52 million in 2023.

Miami-Dade County reported that MIA remains the fastest-growing mega airport in the United States since the pandemic, with airline seat capacity rising 24 percent compared to 2019.

The airport is currently undergoing a $9 billion renovation, including terminal redesigns, walkway repairs, and the addition of Concourse K with new gates.

MIA has previously appeared on national lists for poor early-morning flight performance, challenging Thanksgiving travel, and slow flight connections.

Travelers passing through Miami International Airport are advised to remain vigilant with their luggage and consider extra precautions to prevent loss.
